On February 28, 2018, the SIAS held the first of this year’s Marine Salon series in light of marine law enforcement in China and Japan. In the context of China-Japan relations, academics and officials from the two countries looked into marine law enforcement and the status quo of the East China Sea issue, as well as the prospects of China-Japan maritime cooperation. Those participated also shared their views on other issues of common interest.

Japanese experts from the Ocean Policy Research Institute at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation(OPRI-SPF), members of the Japanese Coast Guard and officials from Embassy of Japan in China attended the meeting. They were joined by Chinese academics from East China University of Political Science and Law, China Association of Ocean Studies, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences（SASS）and part of the SIAS research staff.
