SIAS hosts seminar ‘Belt & Road Initiative and China-US Relations’

Posted:2018-06-01

On June 1, 2018, the SIAS held a seminar on the Belt and Road Initiative and China-US relations. Brian Lantz, a research fellow at the Schiller Institute, joined academics from the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) and the SIAS research staff at the seminar. He had a productive conversation with those who participated on several important topics, such as American perspectives on the Belt and Road Initiative, how to build mutual trust between China and the US, as well as the potential for cooperation between the two countries on the initiative.

Mr. Lantz gave a talk on “the Belt and Road Initiative, ‘Russia-Gate’, and the Anglo-American ‘special relationship’”. He noted that the openness of the Belt and Road Initiative is representative of the new trends in global development, and that China and the US should cooperate closely under the initiative, especially in infrastructure construction. He also introduced the background and progress of the “Russia probe”, the history and future of the Anglo-American “special relationship”.
