Posted:2016-04-13

China will host the 11th G20 Summit in September 2016 in Hangzhou. Its theme will be "building an innovative, invigorated, interconnected and inclusive world economy”. China’s preparations will be focused on innovating upon growth patterns, improving global economic and financial governance, boosting international trade and investment, and promoting inclusive and interconnected development.

On April 12, 2016, the SIAS and the Institute of Economics, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), jointly hosted the seminar “G20 Hangzhou Summit: Insights from Chambers of Commerce”, in an effort to facilitate the preparation of the event. Representatives from the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China and the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai attended the seminar.

On behalf of their members, each chamber of commerce shared the main challenges foreign companies now face in China, the opportunities the summit brings, and how the organizers can better prepare for the event. Tang Yunyi, Director of Research Coordination, SASS, joined the discussions. Representatives from the SIAS, including our Executive Director Hu Hua, Deputy Director of Research Long Fei, and Deputy Director of Outreach and Engagement Ye Jun, also attended the seminar.
