On May 16, 2019, Ambassador Syed Tariq Fatemi, former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, visited SIAS and gave a lecture on “China-Pakistan Relations and International Politics”. Ambassador Fatemi had served as Pakistan Ambassador to the United Nations and held various diplomatic assignments in Pakistan missions abroad, including Moscow, New York, Washington and Beijing.  On retirement, he taught at the Foreign Service Academy, the National Defense University and other institutions. He was also a Consultant with a major private sector energy and power company.

Ambassador Fatemi looked back on the friendship between China and Pakistan and offered his insights into the new challenges to current China-US relations. He also shared his views with those participated on the geopolitics of South Asia and US domestic politics, among other issues.  

Academics from Fudan University, the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) joined SIAS research staff at the meeting.
