Posted:2015-07-01

On June 30, 2015, SIAS co-hosted a seminar on “Sino-US Strategic Dialogue and Bilateral Relations” with support from the Center for American Studies at Fudan University, the Shanghai Association of American Studies, the international desk of the Jiefang Daily and the Shanghai Association of International Relations.

Held in the lead up to President Xi’s visit to the US in September, the 7th round of the US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue (SE&D) was another example of the importance of high-level exchanges in the development of Sino-US relations. Officials from both governments held in-depth discussions on the South China Sea issue, cyber security, climate change and maritime issues, among other topics.

Local experts commented on this round of the SE&D looking at the features, achievements and influence of the strategic track.

Yang Jiemian, Director of the Academic Committee at the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, made the concluding remarks, noting that Shanghai scholars can develop unique approaches to American studies by implementing their own academic strengths.
