Posted:2015-06-25

As a part of our staff training programs, the SIAS invited Professor Yang Jiemian, Director of the Academic Committee of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, to give a lecture on how to write internal reports on international affairs on June 24, 2015. The event was organized following a series of efforts to build the SIAS as a leading think tank.

Professor Yang noted that it’s important for researchers to contribute to internal publications in addressing the most pressing issues of the day. These kinds of reports consisting of policy suggestions are a valuable source of information for government officials. Professor Yang introduced in details how one can improve with practice. He also gave tips on how to identify key topics and write concise summaries. Explaining the features of different types of writing, he concluded that a good report requires immediate attention on the most urgent issues and provides the most sought-after advice for policymakers.

Giving an insider’s know-how, the lecture was found to be highly instructive to the young scholars at the SIAS.
