The Shanghai Institute of American Studies (SIAS) launched the third volume of Americans in Shanghai at JIC Books on September 11. The new book features a prestigious group of Americans living and working in the metropolis. They shared their personal journeys to the city at the bookstore’s signature Biography Library.

Panelists Robert Theleen, Founder of ChinaVest, Kenneth Jarrett, President of AmCham Shanghai, Jonathan Woetzel, Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company and Paul Swenson, Owner of The China Hand Consulting, told their unique Shanghai stories to the audience and offered their suggestions for the city moving forward.

They also expressed a shared wish on behalf of the American expat community that China and the US should work together for a healthy future by strengthening friendly cooperation and enhancing mutual understanding.

Over 100 people attended the event. Officials from the US Consulate-General in Shanghai and the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, were joined by officials from the CPPCC Shanghai Committee, Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office, Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, as well as Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Representatives from US companies in Shanghai, and scholars and experts from local research facilities, also attended the event.
