Posted:2017-09-13

On September 13, 2017, the SIAS held this year’s second Marine Salon: A New Perspective on the Diaoyu Islands Issue and China’s Role in Global Ocean Governance. Participants looked into the Diaoyu Islands dispute, in particular in the context of China-Japan relations. They discussed how China can strengthen its marine law enforcement, as well as why and how it can play a larger role in global ocean governance. The attendants also shared their views on new potential endeavors to exploit deep and distant waters in the future.

The SIAS research staff were joined by representatives from Xinhua News Agency, China Association of Ocean Studies, East China Sea Branch of China Coast Guard, Center for Oceans Strategy Studies of China at Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Center for Japanese Studies at Fudan University, School of Japanese Studies at Shanghai International Studies University, and the School of International Relations at the National University of Defense Technology.
